The Biplane forum in my opinion is the last vestige of true home builders, it requires all of what I call traditional building methods and skills, steel tube welding , wood spars and ribs to be built, some sheet metal and a bit of glass work. plumbing and wiring, covering rib stitching and painting! One has to be good and a dedicated builder to accomplish this, then when finished also become a test pilot on top of it all and fly the time off! So we here on this site are all true home builders!
I had a guy at the Arlington airshow and fly-in after seeing our two father and son biplanes painted the same and parked together ask what company built them, and when I tried to explain that they were plans built he said no! They had to be a kit plane, and just could not understand or fathom the concept of actually building an airplane in ones garage?
So all of you guys out there that are building one of these biplanes give yourself a pat on the back, as we are the last of the true builders! Just my take.. Dave
