I saw this when it first came out in 1965 and have always thought of it as one of my favorite aviation movies. This film was recently released on Blu-ray after what seems like way too long a wait. I own the Laserdisc version and bought the DVD when it was released in 2004 and was very happy with the quality until a couple of days ago. This version is really beautiful by comparison and well worth the steep price for fans of the movie (or fans of old airplanes, Sarah Miles, etc).
Many of the airplanes in the movie were flying replicas built for this project. There's a book about the building of the "aeroplanes" that can still be found for sale here. I found it in my high school library and later bought my own copy.
Below is a link that will tell you more than you care to know about this movie;

If you're a fan, grab a copy of the Blu-ray and/or the book -- the Blu-ray is a limited edition and there's no guarantee it will be re-released after the first run is sold (3000 copies). Enjoy!
