Ok all you tig welders out there, I need some advise here. Though a biplane lover/owner, I am also working on a46 cub project. I bought a diversion welder about a year ago and recently started practicing up to do some repairs. School kinda got in the way of my project last year. My question is,will my diversion 165 work when I weld a 0.20birdcage on to a tubing cluster of various thickness tubing or shouldI go and hire a pro to do this with awelder capable of welding thin material?Iwill not and won't even attempt thisif I can't master scrap pieces. Ialso became farely decent at torch welding with a meco, but I like not having so much distortionfrom the heat with a tig.
My confusionwith having a welder thatis capable of welding thinner material is that you still have to have enough heat to melt the thicker metalwhen weldingin situations like mine. So, this brings me back to my question. Diversion 165?? I havedone scrap pieces of 0.20to 0.64 withsuccess, but also haveblown a lot of edges to. I've guarded thethin pieces with the rod(.32, .45, .64) and plane and simply just AIN'T were I want to be. Let me know what you think, I learn a lot from what people say in these forums. Thanks and Happy Holidays. John
