I have a stratus ESG and a Trans-Cal SSD120-35C-RS232. I would like to know the pin out for the two units. In my case I have only the stratus and the Trans-Cal unit — meaning no other devices other than the antennas. It is a VFR only aircraft.
After a lot of research between Apareo and Trans-Cal I have formulated a few questions. I am connecting the encoder to an Apareo Stratus ESG on an experimental Starduster Too. The system is simple -- Transponder Stratus ESG - to Trans-Cal Encoder.

The Pins for the Encoder are:

  1. Trans-Cal Pin 7 (or 14) to ESG Pin 5
  2. Trans-Cal Pin 8 to PWR-- is this to aircraft power bus via a circuit breaker or via ESG Pin 21 or pin 2?
  3. Trans-Cal Pin 15 to -- Aircraft Ground
  4. Also do I need to run two grounds from the Stratus ESG to the aircraft ground. ESG Pins — 1, 20 and or 37
  5. To add confusion to this question— should the Trans-Cal PWR and Ground connect to the Stratus ESG.
  6. Lastly, I set the Appareo Stratus ESG to Trimble/Garmin – 25’+
