I had a crack on my oil fill tube and called my good friend, Doug Dodge, and he asked the length of the tube and said swing by next week. I was passing by his shop last night, and at Sunday night, he was of course in there working on parts. Doug has designed and built many airplanes over the years including the One Design, DR 109, his own Machaira bipe, etc etc. His shop is jammed with lathes, mills, TIG welders, tools, books, computers, old drawings, parts, etc. there are usually at least two or three "project planes". Doug is the sole guy in this operation and manages the airport and flys air shows in between time. I'm not sure if he sleeps. Anyhow, I thought I'd share a pic of my new oil tube and suggest if you are ever near Bay City James Clements airport stop by and have a coffee. The place is a little cluttered and grungy but get Doug telling stories about his attendance at Woodstock, his air show history (he knew all the big names), the stuff he's conceived and built, and politics, and you'll go home knowing you laughed harder than you ever had. He is hosting an IAC contest in a few weeks so a shout out for that as well. We all know a guy like that.
