What's the value of an AEIO-360 that sat around for many years?

Perhaps the title is too vague so i'll clarify a bit... I'm looking at some of the aircraft available for sale, namely S1S's, S2A's and S2E's and Eagles... a lot of them were utilized in the 80's (when built) and then eventually just sat in a hangar...

Hypothetically speaking, there's an airplane built in early 80's, with said engine, heavy flange crank, was actively used for akro competitions for ~800 hours until year ~2000 and then sat virtually unused since somewhere in a hangar in California.

How does one value such an engine when considering buying an aircraft? I understand you can bore scope the cylinders, do the compression checks, etc... but there are still many things that can't be seen without a complete tear down? Do I assume it will need an overhaul asap? Do I expect to get few hundred more hours out of it?

What do you think? I'm really green at this but would love to learn!

Thanks in advance!
