Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a little help in diagnosing a new problem that just showed up on my S-1S. I have some theories but thought I'd throw this out there in case it sounds familiar.

On my way back from the practice area yesterday after around 20 mins of acro, I became aware of a rather loud noise that I would characterize as a "whine" or even a high-pitch "howl". I pulled off my headset and realized it seemed to be coming from in front of the firewall not simply the radio. I was at approx 130mph and 2500rpm. When I pulled power, the noise stopped immediately, but when I added power again the noise came back, gradually at first but then progressively louder. I pulled power again and dove through various airspeeds but the sound would only return while under power. The sound really sounded like it was coming from the engine bay and not the flying wires. At this point, I grew concerned and headed back for home, keeping the RPM low enough to stop the noise from returning.

Now, it was a particularly hot day and oil temps were pushing 230 when I stopped the acro. It was during some straight and level to cool things down that I first became aware of the sound. No idea if this was a factor but I typically don't let things get that hot.

Initial thoughts, anyone?
