For those with open cockpit, winter conditions (Chicago) do you cancel your policy or switch to ground only?

I have a good solid hangar, and have always been canceling the policy. When this happens, I get the prorated policy refund minus 10%. My agent claims if I switch to ground only, I would save more money AND have hull coverage. I just can't see this being correct, as the liability portion is less than 1/2 of the hull coverage. How or why would AIG keep the responsibility for the hull, and give me more of a refund than of they were relieved of all responsibility?

Any experience with this?

Thanks
