Aircraft operating expenses tax write offs

Would it be possible to write off aircraft operating expenses on your taxes for advertising, such as if you do sky writing to promote a separate non aviation business. Would this require a commercial cert since no one is in the plane with you (I guess similar to banner towing)?

OR if the sky writing is a business of its own? does sky writing for hire require commercial cert?
