I have been tracing down an oil leak over the last 4 or 5 flights. Smoke would blow out if the cowl when I landed. After cleaning the engine, tightening clamps and bolts and doing short test flights the intake shroud on #2 cylinder was dripping oil at the cylinder head seal. I pulled it out today to replace the seals but found a crack in the shroud instead! The crack was on the bottom side and could not be seen. The push rod has some slight rub marks in it at the area of the crack. It looks like a dent in the shroud caused the crack. Last 50 hours have been fine with no oil leak. So I assume it had got bigger in the last couple of hours. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas how it would happen?
Thanks
Nigel
