I am about 6 foot one inch but I have LONG legs. I have had problems getting into cockpits that men 6 foot 6 inches can readily get into. There has been discussion about wide cockpits but not much about cockpits for long-legged pilots. I know that Curtis Pitts said that for the S-1 you could get more legroom (apparent at least) if you moved thecross member at the top, behind the pilot's seat, aft about three inches.
I am considering construction of an S-1 series Pitts, and am curious as to whether or not anyone has factual experience with the results or problems encountered with moving thecross membereven further back. (Commentary would be appreciated).
I would also be interested in learning of any opinion or experienceconcerning suchmodification to the S-2 series of aircraft (presumably "homebuilt " versions only?).
At the very least, moving the top cross member further aft would enable a reduction of stress on the lower spine of the taller pilot.
Sometimes I think that aircraft designers are blessed with short legs.
