My S-1S came with spades, but on Budd's recommendation, I decided to fly without them for the first few hours. Just hit 17 hours recently and decided to try them on today. NICE! They are more effective than I expected! Definitely glad someone set my plane up with them. The plane already handled beautifully, now it's even more delightful.
I've always noticed that my plane has quite a right-roll tendency in level flight. I didn't worry much about it, as I figured it would change with the spades back on. I was right. Now it rolls just a tiny bit to the left. I didn't have much time for testing today, but it looks like it's just an issue with the ailerons not centering. Holding the plane level, the ailerons were pretty much centered. Is it worth shimming the spades to clean this up? If my aerodynamic ponderings are right, I would need to get some more nose-down on the left spade, or nose-up on the right.
