The oil temp limits on the M-14P are quite low, 185F, compared to Lycoming numbers, which are around 240F. Lycoming states that the ideal oil temp is 185F. I read a story years ago about one of the American Aerobatic Team members observing oil being added to Yak or Sukhoi at a contest in Europe. The new oil was black and had lumps in it. When asked what the lumps were they were told the lumps were paraffin wax.
I am thinking that perhaps the the low oil temp limits on the M-14P were set because the oils they were using at the time were low quality and would break down much sooner than our highly refined modern oils with additives. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Danny
