I know that there are all sorts of rudders on S1 Pitts - some appear to be the result of the different models, while others are probably individual builder variations. It seems like the early S1Cs had rudders with quite a bit shorter chord, especially at the bottom, than later ones.
Two questions:
(1) Is there such a thing as too small a rudder on a Pitts? I'm thinking spin entry/recovery.
(2) What effect does a smaller rudder have on landing characteristics?
I probably shouldn't even be thinking about a Pitts till I'm able to land the Jodel on pavement, but everybody says stretch goals are good, right?
