I was hoping some of you Pitts historians could help me out with some info regarding the Delmar Cowl that he developed and Delmars connection to the Northern Knights aerobic team.

I picked up another project last month that came with this Delmar cowl and realized the other day that the paint scheme looks very close to the Northern Knights colors when Delmar was filling in for Steve Soper in the early 80’s. The video I found was from 1984 and both Knights Pitts still had the original style cowl (see youtube video below) but the paint scheme looks almost identical with the dark blue and gold leaf trim.

Does anyone here know the history of the Northern Knights aerobic team and when Delmar first developed his cowl? Is there a chance this cowl came off of one of the team planes?

Thanks for any info anyone can share. I’m a bit of a history nerd when in came to 50’s and 60’s Hot Rods and dragsters I’ve owned over the years and now that’s bleeding over to my new found Pitts obsession.
