I need to replace the oil cooler hoses on my Hatz... I thought I knew what I needed, but now I'm not so sure. I plan to reuse the fittings and just buy new hose. I assumed it's Aeroquip 303 hose because the Aeroquip 491 fittings use an MS24590 sleeve and that's what it says on mine... but it also says 1120-6, which appears to be a Stratoflex number??? I can't make out any marking on the hose itself other than the yellow stripe. So do I need Stratoflex hose? Most sources say not to mix Aeroquip and Stratoflex, but if they both use the same fittings... or perhaps just the same ferrule? And what about the assembly mandrel? But both conform to MIL-DTL-8794, and according to Aircraft Spruce:
But on the same page, they also say:
Of course on an experimental it doesn't have to be "legal"...
Q: Is the Stratoflex 111 comparable to Aeroquip 303?
Yes, Aeroquip 303 is the equivalent of Stratoflex 111 hose.
But on the same page, they also say:
Q: Can 111 house be used with aeroquip fittings?
No. They will fit and work with the hose but the hose would not be legal.
Of course on an experimental it doesn't have to be "legal"...
