Hi! New here. I acquired a SD2 project 2 years ago and I’m beginning to start on it.
I have previously had and flown an EAA bipe and a S1S, both bought and put together from the project stage.
I’ve had a hankering for a SD2 for 20 years so I’m finally scratching it.
This 2 was built with an o-360 fp. I live in Wyoming at 4800’ and would like to operate it off my 2000’ strip. Based on my research in here I believe I’d like to hang an io-540 on it.
My mission is evening flying with lazy aerobatics and occasional 2 hr x countries.
A couple questions for the brain trust;
1) Fixed pitch or Constant speed? I like having a cs but a fp is simple, cheaper and lighter.
2) I need info on the upgraded gear truss design. That’s what happened to this one is it broke and became a project.
3) Has anyone dabbled with a grove spring gear?
4) Is there a more aerodynamic nose bowl anyone has used that looks nice?
5) Does anyone have a lead on an io -540c4b5?
